Celebrating the music of North America!

Celebrate the music of the New World with a triple program that showcases the best music of and about, America! David Robertson of the St. Louis Symphony conducts guest star Paul Jacobs, so far the only Grammy Award-winning organist, who is leading the way in revolutionizing the sound of the formerly staid instrument. At the center of the performance is Pulitzer Prize-winner Christopher Rouse's Organ Concerto, created especially for Jacobs.

Starting the program is the late Charles Ives' Three Places In New England, a tonal piece that reflects on the music of the region. Written in his spare time from being a successful insurance man, the piece combines both popular hymn tunes and traditional American songs with European art music. The middle performance features the afore-mentioned Organ Concerto by Rouse, with the program ending with Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" which combines both Native American and African-American influences.
