Les Claypool at The Wiltern

Why see Les Claypool?

Claypool on a huge tour

Primus founding member Les Claypool is back on the road this summer on a comprehensive solo tour of North America! Frequently mentioned high up in the list of greatest bass players of all time, the genre-defying virtuoso is famous for a novel approach to the instrument, employing techniques you wouldn't often associate with the bass guitar, be it flamenco strumming, tapping, hammer-ons and pull-offs, or playing full chords. His string of successful musical projects across the past four decades have been cited as major influences on acts ranging from Limp Bizkit, Tool and Incubus.

After initially auditioning for Metallica in the 80s, Claypool's career kicked off proper with his band Primus. Their fun, unique style of experimental rock launched them out of the avant-garde circles and into mainstream attention across the 90s. Outside of their prolific output, they famously composed the theme to the TV series South Park - a theme which has continued to be used in some form throughout the 26 seasons and counting. Alongside Primus, his other projects include the supergroup Oysterhead (with The Police's Stewart Copeland and Phish co-founder Trey Anastasio) and collaborations with Sean Lennon.
