Why see La Cage Aux Folles?

The Best Of Times are now

Outrageously funny, dynamic and joyful, "La Cage" remains one of the most socially relevant musicals since premiering on Broadway in 1983 and its constant revivals ensure that new generations of fans fall in love with it time and time again. Georges and Albin, a happily unmarried gay couple in St Tropez find their lives turned upside down when Georges' son shows up with a fiancee in turn - complete with her uber-conservative family. Don't miss this local production of the classique!

What is the story?

One day Georges' son Jean-Michel appears, to tell his parents that he is getting married. The only problem is that this fiancee's parents are uber-conservative politicians - strictly opposed to drag clubs and homosexuality. Terrified at the prospect of Anne's parents discovering his unusual background, Jean-Michel tries to strongarm the flamboyant Albin (who has acted as mother all these years) into appearing as an uncle instead.

The charade continues with an upset Albin and concerned Georges until an unfortunate sing-along in a restaurant with Anne's family leads them to discover the truth about Jean Michel's family. Can Albin forgive Jean-Michel for being ashamed of him, and will he be able to hold on to Anne? Welcome to La Cage - where nothing is as it seems.

I am from LA

Great experience

We had center orchestra eye level seats, one of the best nights yet at the Pantages. George Hamilton was good, but Albin was great, voice, comedy etc. Would bring kids, mother (and in law) to see it. Have watched the movie and the Birdcage, this was the best. ... Read more

Lionel Richie & Mariah Carey 7/31/17

Beautiful night at the Hollywood Bowl! Lionel brings his A+ game to every show and this was no exception! 10 stars for him! as a consummate performer, he has the ability to engage the audience totally, with the side screens showing him up-close and a plethora of visual treats behind him, his energy never flagged ALL NIGHT LONG. people were up, dancing, singing, swaying and shining their light. he made the ticket price 110% worthwhile, a reward for the effort to get around LA traffic on any night of the week. Mariah was a Disappointing Diva!. NO energy or effort! She can barely walk unassisted, constantly carried around/fawned over by her cadre of dancers & spent half her set sitting on a throne in the WAY back, had multiple unexplained exit breaks, trotted out her kids to the spotlight. Sorry for them to be exploited for the fans. Sad. She had shut down the big screens, 90% of the audience couldn't see her at all. Maybe she was lip synching, who knows? 2 stars, just because she's MC. ... Read more

For Lionel Richie

Richie was fabulous. Mariah Carey, terrible. She moved like a Zombie and looked BORED. And her band drowned her out. Maybe that was a good thing. Thank the Lord Lionel Richie saved the night. ... Read more
