Why see Big Band Night - Maria Schneider Orchestra and Count Basie Orchestra?

The Best Around

Witness not one, but two of the best big bands around at the Hollywood Bowl! The Maria Schneider Orchestra and the legendary Count Basie Orchestra share a bill that's sure to have you swinging and stomping under the summer skies. Marie Schneider's ensemble have become arguably one of the most important acts in the genre's 21st century iteration, with the multi-Grammy winner known for combining modern inventiveness with the hallmarks of the classic jazz era.

The Count Basie Orchestra meanwhile need no introduction. One of the most prominent jazz performing groups of the swing era, it was founded by Count Basie in 1936. The band survived the late '40s decline in big band popularity and went on to produce notable collaborations with singers such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald in the '50s and '60s. The group continues to perform and record even after Basie's death in 1984.
