Los Angeles Opera - Romeo and Juliet at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

Why see Los Angeles Opera - Romeo and Juliet?

Gounod's Romeo And Juliet

Elevated by Charles Gounod's exhilarating music, Shakespeare's story of star-crossed lovers is created anew in this production from Los Angeles Opera, evoking the intimate surroundings of Shakespeare's famous Globe Theatre in London. Led by Venezuelan conductor Domingo Hindoyan and resident conductor Lina Gonzales-Granado, this glittering production of the timeless story is a thrilling piece of opera to witness! Performed in French with subtitles displayed above the performers.

What is the story?

If you thought your family was dysfunctional, try being the two most famous young lovers in literature. Whilst Romeo Capulet and Juliet Montague are concerned with love at first sight, their rival clans will stop at nothing to destroy the other. When it becomes clear the match will not be tolerated, the pair hatches a scheme to escape the embittered streets of Verona; only the outcome depends on some dangerous trickery that might just see their fates entwined forever, and not in the marriage bed as previously planned.
