Why see Big Night?
World premiere
Comedy and tragedy interact in this new play receiving its world premiere at the Kirk Douglas Theatre this season. From Paul Rudnick, the multifaceted writer behind Jeffrey, Sister Act, and the upcoming Devil Wears Prada musical adaptation, we head into the high glitz (and high stress) bubble of the Beverly Hills hotel suite of Michael, whose on the cusp of winning the prize of his career, something everyone in his life has something to say about.
But as Michael navigates the bombshell announcement of his mom and his nephew Eddie's insistence he use his (pending) win to make a political statement for the LBGTQ community, the soft filters of Hollywood life begin to sharpen. When his boyfriend Austin arrives with some horrifying news, the matter of the gold statuette seems the last thing on his mind.
A searingly funny piece about family, fame and politics of both, Big Night is led by a wickedly talented ensemble including Wendie Malick and Brian Hutchison.
