Los Angeles Philharmonic - Mozart 1791: Final Piano Concerto

September 29 - October 1, 2017

At the time of his death, Mozart was just 35 years old and whilst the year had not been financially a good one for him, his output during this time is often considered his most rich and mature in scope and sound. This year, The Los Angeles Philharmonic explore the length and breadth of the maestro's work during 1791 beginning with this recital of his final Piano Concerto and other pieces that illustrate what further wonders we could have been blessed with had his passing been delayed.

Composed at the tender age of just 17, Mendelssohn's score for Shakespeare's fantastical play has captured the public imagination since its debut in Stettin in 1827. Guest maestra Susanna Malkki will take up the baton for this female-centric performance, fresh from taking over conducting duties at the Helsinki Orchestra. Joining the Phil will be the Grammy Award-nominated Women of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, now celebrating their 43rd season under the leadership of Grant Gershon. In addition, there will be scenes performed from the play! A must-see for fans of the Bard.
