Why See A Night with Janis Joplin?
Spend an evening with the Queen of Rock and Roll
A Night With Janis Joplin has already made a name for itself playing Broadway, and is now back on the road, headed to regional theatres around the U.S. Mary Bridget Davies, the foremost Joplin interpreter in the biz, reprises her role as the late singer-songwriter. Davies, whose stunning rendition of the tortured songstress earned her a Tony Award nomination, not only bares a striking physical resemblance to Joplin, but has the uncanny ability to conjure her trademark fire and haunting bluesy growls. Close your eyes and you could be in the swinging sixties...
Helmed by the critically acclaimed Broadway director Randy Johnson, the production is a musical journey celebrating the inspirations and music of the tragic and immensely talented Joplin. Her distinctive voice, charisma and public battle with drugs and alcohol made her one of Rock and Roll's most memorable stars, though she was only in the limelight for the final three years of her life.
What is A Night With Janis Joplin About?
The show takes the form of a Joplin concert at the peak of her fame, transporting the audience back in time with an authentic stage design of retro proportions. Throughout the course of the evening, Joplin punctuates her rousing performances of classics like 'Mercedes Benz' and 'Piece of My Heart' with biographical asides, introducing her influences. These inspiring females include the members of The Chantels and Aretha Franklin, and each gets a chance to wow the crowd with their own powerful performance.
