Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes' powerful mediation on war
Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes' powerful mediation on war comes to LA's Kirk Douglas Theatre this Winter, over a decade after a critically acclaimed New York run. Weaving together music, memories and the scars of war both physical and metaphysical, the poignant play explores the human cost of combat, long after the fighting has stopped.
Tony nominated Hudes modelled the story on the musical theatre structure in which different voices sing similar themes, ultimately coming together to sing the same heart-rending song. Elliot Ortiz and his father remained trapped in monologues, unable to communicate to each other, even though they share the experience of war. Poetry and light-hearted moments underpin the profound emotion of this hard-hitting drama.
