Steve Winwood and Mavis Staples at Hollywood Bowl

Why see Steve Winwood and Mavis Staples?

Two giants of soul and blues

Two giants of blues music join forces for one night only at the Hollywood Bowl this September, combining rhythm and blues with gospel. British Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steve Winwood is best-known for his blue-eyed soul phase of the 1980s, which included the No. 1 Billboard charting Higher Love featuring Chaka Khan. The multi-talented musician is joined by Mavis Staples, a long-time collaborator with Bob Dylan - and one time paramour! Together, this electric pair will make for a smooth evening of soul at the Bowl.

Winwood first emerged in the 1960s with The Spencer Davis Group, co-writing some of their biggest hits including I'm a Man and Gimme Some Lovin'. He later co-founded one of rock's first supergroups in Blind Faith and was inducted into The Hall of Fame as a member of jazz-rock pioneers Traffic. Staples' recent 2016 album Livin' On A High Note is a sunny burst of optimism boasting songs written by Justin Vernon, Neko Case and Nick Cave, which she toured with Dylan last year.
