Why See Playboy Jazz Festival?
All That Jazz
In 2017, the Playboy Jazz Festival enters its 39th year! Founded by jazz fanatic Hugh Hefner back in 1959, the original festival was held at the Chicago Stadium and featured Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson on its inaugural bill. Taking a lengthy break, the festival came back for a second round in 1979 at The Hollywood Bowl, where it's stayed ever since.
The line-up this year is as starry as ever. Headlining the Saturday will be Arturo Sandoval Latin Big Band, Corinne Bailey Rae and Marcus Miller. Sunday's line-up is just as impressive, and includes Common, Gregory Porter, Lala Hathaway and Miles Mosley. Presiding over proceedings in the role of emcee will be once again be comedian and talk show host George Lopez.
