Perfect Rock Night In Huntsville

Driving 100 miles to see not only Rock Legends I grew up with but also the brand new Orion Amphitheater that seats 8000. Was not disappointed in any way. A perfect night for an outdoor concert. As the owner of an original vinyl record of all three groups, the concert was a treat. Loverboy started it up and rocked the night with all their hits and I was loving every minute of it. After a quick set up change (15 min.), REO came on and was absolutely amazing. Kevin Cronin was energetic and lifted the show to new heights. Styx followed and loved all their hits but they did play a little more of their recent album offerings while leaving out a couple of their greatest hits. Still great and Tommy Shaw, an Alabama kid, can still bring it. Really a great show!

Styx performance on June 10 in Noblesville was one for the ages! Phenomenal! They bring classic and new songs to the stage with new twists, and renditions, that are amazing. Sound quality, lighting, instrumental arrangements, outfits, focus, engagement with the crowd, were all superb. Each and every band member is a pro and a once in a lifetime talent. They are one of the best rock bands ever. Thank you for what you do. Thank you Styx!!!

Loverboy opened with a rousing one hour set of their greatest hits. And they had quite a few. After a twenty minute break Styx hit the stage with their total professionalism and treated the sold out crowd to all their hits through the years. I have seen Styx six times and Sat. night was the best ever. Closing this stellar concert was the ever popular REO Speedwagon. Having seen REO a dozen times since 1976 I was totally impressed by Kevin Cronin and crew. They remain the best of the best. A solid 10. If you want a great evening of the finest in classic rock music spend the money and enjoy the evening. You won't be disappointed.

Loverboy was excellent! Mike Reno’s voice is still in pretty solid shape (although I hope he gets into better shape - we need you around Mike!), and you could tell he and the band were having a lot of fun! They nailed it in their 45-50 minute set. Styx literally blew the roof off the place!! (If there had been a roof that is :). Studio quality sound on every song. High energy. Vocals were perfect! They should be touring and doing a 2 hour set as a headliner. That’s how great they were! Tommy Shaw changed guitars 7 times. Gotta love it. REO - yikes! I love them, but they were a big disappointment. Cronin’s voice showed it’s age. You could feel the cringe in the crowd after watching how good Styx was. Cronin’s voice needs more backup - alone he can’t carry it. They should have been the opening band. Go see Styx - and Loverboy. Stick around for REO unless your Uber is waiting.

I thought Loverboy was great. Tough to be a lead singer for their tunes, although I admire the attempt. Styx came next and were exceptional. Just what I was hoping for. Simply amazing. REO played third- I remember listening to their stuff in the 70's and loved them. Not so great now however. I will say that the acoustics were pretty poor at the AK-Chin Pavillion in Phoenx. Hard to sound good with metal roofing over a large part of the venue.
