Wonderfully Simplistic

The ballet has, by most accounts, been changed to a different perspective and portrayal of the story as well characters. Taken into consideration, yes these professionals couldve made a much more vivid presentation, but since this is Shakespeare...it is not about the originality or heartstopping swoops of talent. (Shakespeare's own plays were based of old legends) The presentation of the two lovers was simple, reflecting Shakespeare's work. As well as the emotional and dare say beautifully presented choreography. It led the story well, playing with clever set changes and its dancers clothes. I should say that its difficult to not want this experience again; to appreciate its nostalgic and child- like love that Romeo and Juliet is sure you've experienced yourself. Truly definite that i would take my loved ones and even my disliked co-worker to spread the enjoyment.

A fan of the Joffrey Ballet, this production was a huge disappointment in concept, choreography and costuming.. The sophomoric backstage walk contributed nothing but blur and unattractive distraction rather than contributing anything toward the story, Italy or the idea of juxtaposing this love story again the violence of the times. The dancing was neither beautiful nor inventive but rather redundant and frankly ugly and boring. Seriously how many times does Juliet need to morosely walk through the set...the company take a lie down...the lifts perfunctorily marionette in kicks. There was no need to stay awake and no emotional welling to climax the tragedy which is the true tragedy of this critically acclaimed (really?) piece. Langers Deli pastrami was delicious. A day out with friends just wonderful and the staff gracious. No this is not top shelf for neither the Joffrey nor the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.

I was very much so excited to see this production but into about 20 of the first act I was bored and asleep. The story line of Romeo and Juliet was no where near portrayed in this production. It wasn’t romantic at all and more so focused on the “battle” scenes and not the love interests. I would definitely recommend that you save your money and skip seeing this production.
