Bright Colors And Bold Patterns at Celebration Theatre

Why see Bright Colors And Bold Patterns?

DIRECTED BY UGLY Betty's MICHAEL URIE - exact Dates TBA

Following a brief run Off-Broadway, Bright Colors and Bold Patterns comes to the Celebration Theatre. A hilarious new solo play created by and starring Drew Droege (Drunk History, Transparent), Bright Colors is a winning mix of drugs, drink and gay marriage. Droege stars as Gerry, a gay man who is divided about same sex marriage, and is more than willing to let everyone at a party that he has crashed know about it.

Droege takes to the stage with nothing more than some chairs as co-stars, yet summons up his fellow party guests out of thin air with hugely impressive theatrical nimbleness. By the end of the show you'll swear there was more than one actor in the play! This Los Angeles production, is directed by Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), who certainly has form when it comes to one man shows, having starred in Buyer & Cellar to great acclaim in 2013.

WHAT IS BRIGHT COLORS ABOUT?

Josh and Brennan are getting married in Palm Springs and the arrangements couldn't be going better. That is, until their friend Gerry turns up the night before the ceremony, drunk and very angry. His ire has been incensed by the wedding invitation, which asks the guests to 'Please refrain from wearing bright colors or bold patterns.'

Is this what gay marriage has done? fumes Gerry. Must we now hide our true selves behind a curtain of respectability, and abide by boring cultural norms? As the night wares on, Gerry and the assorted wedding guests discuss what has been lost and what has been won through gay marriage, in an ever wilder and drunker debate.

DID YOU KNOW?

Drew Droege actually did receive a wedding invitation with this egregious dress code request, which inspired him to create the show.
